Alberto Rodríguez, alias “El Virus,” a criminal leader of the Nuevo Imperio Cartel, which operates in Azcapotzalco, was arrested at a resort in Tulancingo-Metepec, Hidalgo, in a coordinated operation between the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), federal authorities, and state authorities.
Investigations indicate that the group led by “El Virus” is primarily involved in robbery, cargo theft, drug trafficking, and homicide.
In recent years, his organization maintained an alliance with Los Malportados; however, the alliance broke down, leading to a dispute for control of criminal activities in the Azcapotzalco borough, which resulted in homicides in the area.
He is also linked to a femicide, at least five homicides, and crimes of extortion, robbery, and drug dealing.
Following several shootings and homicides in the western part of Mexico City, investigative work, including fixed and mobile surveillance, led to the location of the leader of this violent group, who had relocated to the municipality of Santa Ana Hueytlalpan in the state of Hidalgo.
In a strategic operation, he was arrested at a resort in possession of drugs.
