This success is driven by the construction of the monumental image of the Virgin of Chorrito and the consolidation of a comprehensive strategy that includes infrastructure, historical promotion, and security coordination.
According to the mayor of Hidalgo, economic activity and the arrival of visitors have shown sustained growth since the start of the second phase of the religious project, currently under construction.
The mayor, speaking to local media, acknowledged that “very well, the truth is that the influence of tourism has increased considerably. Today we can say that we are becoming a national benchmark, growing alongside the support of the governor of this administration, and this is reflected not only in the number of visitors but also in the improvement of tourist services.”
“Since the inauguration on December 12th, we have seen an increase of approximately 40 percent. Even in December, during the holidays, we were practically at full capacity in hotels and services. We are on the rise, and we expect that during the patron saint festivities and Holy Week, the growth will be even greater,” the mayor emphasized.
In coordination with the State Government and the Ministry of Tourism, a route is being promoted that begins in the municipal capital with the Santo Domingo parish, passes through the birthplace of General Pedro José Méndez, the ruins of San Agustín, the Ojo de Mar, the Barbosa lagoon, the Pedro José Méndez dam, attractive for fishing and camping, the former La Mesa hacienda and culminates in the Chorrito Sanctuary.
