The national destinations with the most reservations are Cancun, Los Cabos, Huatulco, Mazatlán, Riviera Maya, and Ixtapa, according to Despegar.
Despite the increase in Covid-19 infections and hospital saturation, Mexicans will take advantage of the December holidays to go on vacation, since November travel agencies began to notice an increase in the search for destinations and more than 50% of the number of reservations are for these dates.
According to Despegar’s Country Manager in Mexico, Alejandro Calligaris, last month they noticed a growth in demand and interest to travel during the winter and they injected a notable interest to travel.
“We have undoubtedly observed an increase in interest and motivation to travel for the holidays, and we noticed this during the Good End, where more than 50% of the reservations correspond to trips from the first week of December until the end of December. January second, ”he told Forbes Mexico.
In this sense, the Despegar executive specified that so far interest remains at similar levels among Mexicans, in fact, it continues to grow compared to weeks prior to these events.
Likewise, he pointed out that 25% of the reservations made in El Buen Fin are for the second week of January and next days; when it is usually 15% in normal conditions, which gives them positive signals about the interest to travel for the next year.
Calligaris commented that domestic trips are emerging as favorites, especially beaches, which are the most sought after destinations at the end of the year.
However, international destinations are gradually gaining participation, in particular, the United States, Canada, and South America, where they see that the demand shows growth, and they hope that it will stay that way.
According to data from Despegar, the destinations with the most reservations are Cancun, Los Cabos, Huatulco, Mazatlán, Riviera Maya and Ixtapa; in addition to Las Vegas, Orlando, and New York, in the United States; even to South America, like Lima or Buenos Aires.
The executive explained that the preferred type of accommodation for winter trips are hotels and beach resorts, with an average stay of 5 days and average purchase anticipation of 15 days.
According to the study carried out by the company, 92% of Mexican travelers favor tourism products and services that have flexible policies, of which 99% seek flexibility in flights, 89% in packages, and 70% in accommodation.
In addition, it points out that family trips will be one of the main trends in post-pandemic tourism, given that about 40% of Mexican travelers will make or made their first trip after confinement by Covid-19 to national destinations with their children and partner.
According to Booking.com, among the most sought-after destinations on the platform for Christmas, beaches are the preferred ones, led by Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, and Cancun; but there are also places like Mazatlán, Mazamitla, Playa del Carmen, Veracruz, Mexico City, Puerto Escondido, and Ixtapa.
