Over a period of 22 years, the cost of public transportation fares in Hidalgo, specifically for shared taxis in the Pachuca metropolitan area, increased by seven pesos, rising from three to ten pesos—an increase of more than 200 percent, according to a review by MILENIO of agreements published in the State Official Gazette (POEH).

The last fare increase for shared taxis was five years ago during the administration of Omar Fayad Meneses. On December 31, 2021, an 11.1 percent increase was approved for shared taxi fares, raising the price from nine to ten pesos.

Starting in January 2018, the fare for shared taxis in the Pachuca metropolitan area increased from eight to nine pesos, while the minimum taxi fare was set at 32.50 pesos, also during Fayad Meneses’ administration.

In December 2015, a new fare for fixed-route public transportation went into effect in Hidalgo, during the administration of Francisco Olvera Ruiz. In the Pachuca metropolitan area, the fare increased from 7.50 to 8.00 pesos, a rise of 50 centavos, equivalent to 6.60 percent. This same increase was applied throughout the rest of Hidalgo.

In September 2012, the cost of public transportation rose from six to 6.50 pesos, and the minimum taxi fare increased to 25 pesos. Another fare increase was authorized on December 19, 2011, raising the fare from 5.50 to 6 pesos, both during Olvera Ruiz’s administration.

On September 6, 2004, during the administration of Manuel Ángel Núñez Soto, the Official Gazette of the State of Hidalgo (POEH) published an agreement establishing a fare of 3.50 pesos for fixed bus routes in urban areas. The justification given was the increased cost of supplies needed to maintain the vehicles, taking into account salaries, the area’s economic development, social demand, road accessibility, available infrastructure, and the positions of the parties involved.

The agreement also states that the minimum fare for individual, unrestricted service in Pachuca and Mineral de la Reforma would be ten pesos at that time. Prior to September 2004, records show that the fare for shared taxis in the state capital was only three pesos.

Meanwhile, over a period of eleven years, the Tuzobús bus rapid transit system, inaugurated in August 2015 by then-Governor Francisco Olvera Ruiz, has seen a two-peso fare increase.

The most recent fare increase was five years ago during Fayad Meneses’ administration, when the fare rose from nine to ten pesos on December 31, 2021.

At that time, “the adjustment was established with an 11.1 percent increase to the existing fare of nine pesos, making the first trip ten pesos, the first transfer zero pesos, and the second transfer zero pesos. It also included a 50 percent discount for senior citizens and people with disabilities who possess the card that allows for this benefit,” the agreement states.

Meanwhile, on December 25, 2017, also during Fayad Meneses’ administration, authorities agreed to a nine-peso fare increase for this mode of transportation.

Previously, in July 2015, it was established that the fee for the use of the public mass passenger transport service in the integrated network of corridor one of the metropolitan area of Pachuca, made up of the trunk route and the 19 feeder routes that supply it, would be eight pesos for the right of access, during the administration of Olvera Ruiz.

Además, en un lapso de once años el Tuzobús registra un incremento en el pasaje de dos pesos, es decir, de ocho a diez
