The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) reported in a bulletin that Nayarit, Oaxaca, and Hidalgo experienced the largest increases in economic activity during the fourth quarter of 2025, according to figures from the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE), which measures the economic performance of the states.

At the close of 2025, 19 states reported growth in their economic activity according to the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE). In contrast, 11 states registered declines, and Chiapas and Jalisco remained unchanged compared to the previous quarter.

Thus, the states that registered the largest quarterly increases were Nayarit at 5.7% and both Oaxaca and Hidalgo at 4.8%.

During the same period, Sinaloa saw growth of 4.2%, and Tabasco reported an increase of 3.8%.

These data position the five states among those with the greatest economic dynamism in the country by the end of 2025, according to the ITAEE (State Economic Activity Indicator).

At the other end of the spectrum, the worst performance was recorded in Michoacán, with a 2.5% decline. It was followed by Tlaxcala with a 2.4% drop and Aguascalientes with a 1.9% decrease between October and December.

According to the INEGI (National Institute of Statistics and Geography) report, the states that contributed most to the real growth of the national economy were Mexico City, Sinaloa, and Nuevo León. These three territories serve as the main drivers of Mexican economic progress.

Conversely, Baja California Sur and Colima contributed minimally to growth, while Campeche and Coahuila showed negative figures that detracted from the overall result.

Annual Growth and Declines Accentuate Regional Contrasts
In the year-over-year comparison of the fourth quarter of 2025 versus the same period in 2024, the national GDP rose 1.8%, with 23 states showing expansion and nine reporting contraction.

Sinaloa had the highest growth rate, registering 12% at the end of the fourth quarter. It was followed by Hidalgo with 9.1%, Nayarit with 5.2%, Mexico City with 5.1%, and Tabasco with 4.2%.

On the downside, Campeche reported the sharpest decline in the country, with an annual contraction of 10.6%. Quintana Roo also registered a significant annual decrease of 6.1%.

The INEGI figures show economic disparities between regions. Productive sectors and local conditions have a differentiated impact on each state.

The end of 2025 shows that, despite the overall progress of the national GDP, growth opportunities remain concentrated in some areas, while others face lags and declines in their economic activity.
