Hidalgo, among the most welcoming states in Mexico, according to Booking.com’s awards

Booking.com, a global leader in connecting travelers with an unrivaled choice of accommodations, activities and incredible transportation options, including flights, car rentals and taxis, announces, as part of the 13th edition of the Traveller Review Awards, the top 3 friendliest states in Mexico for 2025.

The list also includes the cities that stand out in each of the selected states.

Conducted annually, based on more than 360 million verified customer reviews, this award honors travel partners that consistently offer exceptional hospitality and service. The list is defined by the proportion of partner accommodations that received the Traveller Review Awards recognition in a specific city, and the friendliest states in Mexico in this year’s edition mainly highlight three states:

Baja California Sur
Hidalgo
Sonora

Hidalgo, ranked as one of the most welcoming states, is known for its rich history and cultural diversity, as it offers a unique mix of natural landscapes and historical heritage. The state is famous for its archaeological sites, magical towns, and beautiful
handicrafts.

This is an ideal destination for travelers who want to connect with nature, go wildlife watching, or practice sports like cycling or hiking.

The most welcoming destination in the state is:

  • Huasca de Ocampo: This charming magical town is known for its natural landscapes and colonial architecture. Among its main attractions are the Basaltic Prisms, the former haciendas of San Miguel Regla and Santa María Regla, which offer a look at the region’s mining past.

Accommodations

Apartments and houses continue to lead the accommodation sector Apartments remain the most awarded type of accommodation for the eighth consecutive year (847,627 awards). Houses (259,105) maintain second place, surpassing hotels (190,670) for the third consecutive year.

Capsule hotels stood out,

recording a 35% increase in awards year-over-year, the largest growth among accommodation types, followed by villas (25%) and cabins (21%).

Overall, awards for vacation rentals and other unique properties increased 17%, reflecting the travel community’s continued enthusiasm for a variety of stays that offer distinctive hospitality and unforgettable experiences.

About Traveller Review Awards:

To be eligible for an award, accommodation partners needed to have an average rating of 8 or higher (out of 10), based on at least 3 reviews received by 23:59 (CET) on 30 November 2024.

Car rental partners needed to have an average rating of 8 or higher (out of 10), based on at least 10 reviews received by 23:59 (CET) on 31 October 2024. To be eligible for an award, taxis needed to have an average rating of 4.6 or higher (out of 5), as well as having completed 2,000 rides by 23:59 (CET) on 30 November 2024.

Only customers who actually stayed at an accommodation, rented a car or took a taxi can leave a review about their experience on Booking.com. As these reviews are not edited or corrected, site visitors can take them as an authentic reference of a real traveler’s experience staying at an accommodation or using ground transportation service provided by Booking.com partners.

*Destinations were selected based on the overall proportion of Traveller Review Awards 2025 winners, compared to the total number of eligible properties in that city or region (accommodation only).

Destinations also needed to have an above-average number of winners to be included on the list (200 winners or more for cities and regions) and were selected based on their geographic location.
