Mexico’s men’s national soccer team will be making an October stop in Charlotte. The Mexican team will face Ghana on Oct. 14 at Bank of America Stadium, as part of this fall’s MexTour.
It will be the sixth appearance at Bank of America Stadium by the Mexican national team, which last played in Charlotte in October 2021, losing 3-2 to Ecuador. Average attendance in Charlotte for El Tri’s visits has been about 53,000.
Mexico is No. 12 in the world, according to the latest FIFA rankings, while Ghana is 60th and played in last year’s World Cup. It will be the fourth meeting between the two teams, with Mexico winning the previous three.
The match against Mexico will be part of a U.S. tour by Ghana, with the Black Stars scheduled to face the U.S. Men’s National Team on Oct. 17 in Nashville.
The Charlotte visit is the third of four matches for Mexico on its fall U.S. tour. The Mexico-Ghana match will be played during a FIFA schedule window, which means the European leagues will be on break for a week. That means each country will be able to call up their top players for the match in Charlotte.
Mexico’s previous visits to the Queen City were in 2010 (a 0-0 tie with Iceland); 2011 (a 5-0 victory over Cuba); 2015 (a 4-4 tie with Trinidad & Tobago); 2019 (a 3-2 victory over Martinique); and 2021 against Ecuador.
