December 11 was the last time that singer-songwriter Armando Manzanero was seen in public, he attended the inauguration of “Casa Manzanero”, a museum dedicated to the creator of some of the most romantic songs in Mexican musical history.

The museum is located on the top floor of the Paseo 60 shopping center in his native Mérida, Yucatán, in addition, the new “Route of Nostalgia” was inaugurated that day, as a complementary product of the “Casa Manzanero” Museum, one more route of the Turibús that goes through the representative places of childhood and great anecdotes that shaped part of the life of the great musician and singer-songwriter Armando Manzanero.

On the day of its inauguration, on December 11, the composer noted:

“How good that in these times they are recognizing the authors, especially the living ones. Gratitude is the memory of the heart (…) I am grateful for my people and all that great conglomerate of composers that Yucatán has… Music is the best memory one can carry in one’s pocket ”.

On Thursday, December 17, the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico reported that the singer-songwriter tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). According to recent reports, the author of songs like “Somos Novios” and “Contigo Aprendí”, died of a failure in his kidneys, since his lungs were already 100%.
Who was Armando Manzanero?

The singer-songwriter, actor, musician, and producer was born on December 7, 1935, in Mérida, Yucatán. He wrote more than 400 songs, of which more than 50 achieved international fame. His successes include songs such as: “Somos Novios”, “Esta tarde vi llover” and “Contigo Aprendí”.

Armando Manzanero recorded more than 30 albums and participated in numerous radio and television programs. In 1950 he composed his first melody entitled “Nunca en el Mundo” and, a year later, he began his professional career as a pianist.
