Mérida is an attractive city to live in, according to its low rates of insecurity and high-impact crimes. However, last October the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) placed the Yucatecan capital among the 10 most expensive cities in the country.
The cost of a home in Mérida varies according to the type of house and its location that ranges from 750,000 pesos in subdivisions to 5 and a half million pesos in private residential areas.
On the other hand, if you want to rent a property, the prices will range from 2,200 to 30,000 in exclusive areas.
Cost of public transport.
The city has several buses and combi routes that connect various residential areas. The ticket price is 7.50 pesos for adults by bus and 8 pesos in combis. For minors, the cost is 3 pesos.
Cost of food.
Eating in a restaurant ranges from 200 to 500 pesos per person. Likewise, the price of the basic shopping basket in Mérida has an average cost of 750 pesos in the supermarket or convenience stores.
Cost of basic services.
Payments for basic services, which include electricity, garbage collection, water, and gas, are approximately 800 to 1000 pesos per month, according to the area and the consumption of these products.
For the internet, cable, and telephone service, 550 pesos are paid monthly in the economic packages.
